The oldest Fair Trade Organization in Indonesia is celebrating its 35 anniversary in the months of August and September. To mark this occasion, Pengembangan Kerajinan Rakyat Indonesia (Indonesian People’s Folk-Art and Handicraft Foundation) or Pekerti launched the ’35 Reasons to Support Fair Trade’ online campaign. This campaign is entirely online to minimise carbon footprints. It targets online users who are potential buyers of Fair Trade products. Pekerti decided to launch this low-cost campaign to gather opinions and insights of the online users who are the stakeholders, like, buyer organizations, local consumers, customers abroad and other prospective buyers. The knowledge that will be collected from this campaign will be used to inform Pekerti on its goal to strengthen the organization and methods of engaging in Fair Trade business.

A one-man walk for Fair Trade in Japanese countryside |
Wish Xavier Auclert a happy and safe trip on his 750-kilometer journey across Japan’s scenic countryside on Sunday, 5 September! This walk is Xavier’s personal dedication for Fair Trade. Embarking on a solo journey on foot, Xavier will promote Fair Trade in Japan by handing out Fair Trade postcards to people along the way. He has prepared postcards in Japanese text to promote Fair Trade in the country, which offers so much market potential for Fair Trade products but still has quite low awareness. Please send your wishes on his email address xaau[at]live[dot]com. Your words of encouragement mean a lot to him and his cause to promote Fair Trade in Japan. Definitely, Xavier will be happy to hear from you!

More donations are needed for Pakistan as people affected by the floods have risen up to 20 million. Aid groups like Oxfam International are running out of emergency relief supplies, and fewer donations are coming in compared to other disasters. A public health catastrophe is threatening Pakistan. Cases of cholera and diarrhoea have been reported due to lack of clean drinking water and shortage of hygiene kits and facilities, such as, emergency toilets to prevent the outbreak of diseases. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned that there will be a second wave of deaths, unless victims receive humanitarian aid.
