Fair Trade – Inspiring change in women’s lives

inspiring-change_web4.jpgWomen do most of the work in the world - 67%, in fact, according to a UN report—yet receive 30 to 40% less than men for comparable work, and in many developing countries women receive no remuneration at all. However, the struggle for women’s equality has achieved great social, political and economic change, improving the lives of working women and their families on a global scale. Fair Trade is an important part of this change. The World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) is marking International Women’s Day by celebrating the inspiring women who participate in Fair Trade enterprises and by urging governments and organizations to embrace an agenda for change.

price-logo-small.gifWFTO is one of the partners of an exciting project that will promote ethical investments among financial institutions in Europe. Promoting Responsible Investment and Commerce in Europe (PRICE): Fair Trade and Ethical Finance Responds to Global Crisis  is an EU-supported project that aims to raise public awareness and promote education that aims to mobilise greater financial support on actions against poverty and for fairer relations between developed and developing countries in the field of responsible investment and commerce.
