Sana Hastakala celebrates 20 years of fair trading |
|
18 January 2010 |
On behalf of the entire WFTO network, we would like to congratulate Sana Hastakala on their 20th anniversary. 20 years of fair trading and giving livelihoods to small and marginalized craft producers is a huge achievement. Congratulations Sana Hastakala!
Sana Haskatala, means “small handicrafts” in Nepali language, is one of the Fair Trade pioneers in Nepal and in Asia. It is also one of the founding Fair Trade Organizations (FTOs) of the World Fair Trade Organization.
In a special ceremony held last 17 December, Chair Sachidananda Shrivastava handed special recognition to their producer groups, current and former employees and trading partners for their support and contribution to the organization.
The organization has 80 producer groups that comprised more than a thousand skilled workers. Products of Sana Hastakala are unique and reflect the rich heritage of the Nepali culture and tradition. These products are handmade by skilled artisans, who are mostly women from the different parts of Nepal. To view the products, visit their web site www.sanahastakala.com.
Currently, it supplies various selections of quality handicrafts to national and international markets. Their growth impacted communities where they operated by providing decent paying jobs to artisans and craft workers.
Sana Hastakala invests its profits to product development and training of artisans and other workers for more product competitiveness, and community development programs.
