Fair Trade Forum India to launch a nationwide campaign on sustainable consumption
28 June 2010
In India, domestic consumption is increasing due to the growing middle class.  Following this trend, Fair Trade Forum India (FTFI) is going to launch a nationwide project called Pro Sustain to promote Fair Trade and sustainable consumption in the country which is aimed at the Indian middle class.

pro_sustain.jpgPro Sustain will be launched on 30 June in a round table at the India International Centre in New Delhi.  It is supported by the European Union, the Dutch organization Hivos, International Resources for Fairer Trade (IRFT) and Shop for Change.

This project aims to popularise the Fair Trade brands in India and engage the growing consumers to support these brands.  Pro Sustain targets corporate business, schools and universities, professionals, entrepreneurs and the media over the next three years.  To cultivate better the Fair Trade brand, it also seeks commitments from the government to support fair trade producers.

The core message to be delivered to Indian consumers is that they can contribute to sustainable development by choosing deliberately and consciously.   To learn more about Pro Sustain, please visit and contact FTFI http://www.fairtradeforum.org/prosustain.php.

ftfi.jpgFTF-I is a WFTO member, as Fair Trade Network, with 75 member Fair Trade Organizations in India. Over the last 10 years, FTF-I has been working with Fair Trade Organizations, artisans and small producers, especially from marginalized sections of Indian society, striving to empower small producers through Fair Trade.
