Pachacuti is among a small cadre of businesses to receive Business in the Community’s (BITC’s) coveted National Big Tick, which was awarded for their work on the Sustainable Fair Trade Management System.  The Big Tick award is the first level of award available to entrants of BITC’s national Awards for Excellence, the UK’s most influential, independent, peer assessed corporate responsibility awards. Pachacuti received the Big Tick award at Nottingham on 22 June.

Pachacuti’s programme was also short listed for consideration for the title of Example of Excellence – the overall winner – for the International category, and presented their entry to a panel of expert judges in May.

The Awards for Excellence reward businesses who demonstrate the positive impact they have had on society, and also the business benefits created by ensuring that being responsible is integral to their business model.

pachacuti_hat.jpgCarry Somers commented; “We are delighted to have our work on addressing Millennium Development Goals recognised by receiving the Big Tick and to have been short listed for the overall Example of Excellence in the International category.   The Sustainable Fair Trade Management System provides a framework within which marginalised producers can develop the capacity to take more control over their work and their lives through becoming better organised, resourced and supported. I hope that our example will encourage other organisations to implement the SFTMS in order to demonstrate social, economic and environmental responsibility throughout the supply chain.

Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said: “I congratulate Pachacuti on achieving their Big Tick and being short listed for the Example of Excellence in their category. It has been difficult 12 months for business, but this is a sign that companies are not losing their focus on making a positive impact on people and planet, and are prepared to lead by example. That’s what Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence are all about – celebrating responsible business, the leadership that makes it happen, and the benefits to the business and society of doing so. Consumers need to see that businesses are proactive, visible and engaged on the big issues of the day, as Pachacuti has demonstrated.”
