We've circled the globe with thundering, record-breaking Big Bang events! Thousands of artisans, farmers, artists, professionals, retailers and sellers of sustainable Fair Trade beat drums, stomped, danced, sang, played, ate and what have you in 889 record-breaking celebrations of World Fair Trade Day.A solo drummer pitched the first Big Bang sound as the first 9 May 2009 sun rose over a beach in Indeed it was a big day for the planet. The day was marked with eclectic celebrations from a solo drummer in New Zealand to the log drumming folks in Solomon Islands, fair trade concerts in Manila and Tokyo, live performances in Ottawa, Dakar and Hertfordshire, public drumming sessions in Swaziland, Buenos Aires and Cape Town, women rowing in the Thames in London, Fair Trade run in Slovenia with their foreign minister, radio program in Palestine, coffee breaks in the US, a Fair Trade rally in Dhaka, and hundreds of Fair Trade exhibitions marked by drum-beating, singing and dancing in major consuming cities in Europe, US and Oceania. The list goes on... . The circling took off with our message of change. Change for a sustainable future in which natural resources are put to responsible use and its profit goes fairly to its producers. It has taken us 60 years to get this far, now is the time to actually get change done. |
