Mona El-Sayed (Egypt) and Ana Larronda Asti (Brazil) replaced two outgoing members of the WFTO Board of Directors.  El-Sayed was elected at-large as the new independent member, and Asti, already elected by Latin American members before the general assembly, was formally appointed in the plenary as the new Latin American representative to the Board.

In a message to members, Myers reiterated the Board’s focus for the last two years:  to bring added value to WFTO membership.  He said that the Board believes a strong membership brand and a label can bring members to new markets.  This year the Fair Trade movement saw significant milestones.  One, WFTO has positioned its leadership in the Fair Trade movement. Second, the global celebration of World Fair Trade Day that brought the issues of Fair Trade in a new, different way.  And last, the Sustainable Fair Trade Management System (SFTMS) that would pave the way for a new label.

Myers heads the nine-member team of Board of Directors.  Five board members are elected by members of their respective regions (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America and the Pacific Rim), and three independent representatives who are elected at large.  All members of the Board shall serve definite terms according to the WFTO Constitution and By-Laws.
